Musinsa, a South Korean fashion retailer, is venturing into the beauty market with the opening of its first standalone multi-brand beauty flagship store. The addition of Musinsa’s beauty division aligns with its plans for an initial public offering valued at over ₩10 trillion (approximately US$7.2 billion). Success in entering the beauty market is crucial for Musinsa's case to potential investors.
Meanwhile, discount retailer Daiso is capitalizing on budget-friendly K-beauty trends, reporting nearly ₩5 trillion (US$3.7 billion) in annual sales. Daiso’s beauty product sales have surged, recording year-on-year growth rates of 70% in 2025, following a consistent upward trajectory in previous years.
In the first half of 2026, Olive Young generated ₩2.94 trillion (US$2.1 billion) in sales, affirming its position as a leader amid rising competition from other retailers. As the K-beauty market becomes more saturated, Musinsa is aiming to leverage its existing customer base of over 16 million from its fashion division to enhance its new beauty segment.
Musinsa’s strategy includes a pharmacy-grade concept targeted at medical tourists seeking post-procedure care. The newly launched beauty store reportedly made ₩250 million (about US$182,000) within three days of opening, with a notable portion of sales coming from foreign clients.
Since entering the beauty industry in 2021, Musinsa has also expanded its private brand offerings and attracted luxury labels like Maison Margiela, MAC, NARS, and Miu Miu Beauty, significantly increasing its portfolio of beauty brands from around 800 to approximately 2,500 by 2026.
Industry experts suggest that Musinsa's unique demographic appeal may facilitate its entry into the competitive space, where Olive Young continues to hold a significant market share. As K-beauty's popularity soars, both Daiso and Musinsa are innovating to capture consumer interest, reflecting a trend towards affordable and accessible K-beauty solutions in diverse retail environments.
