MILAN (AP) — At Milan Fashion Week, Prada co-creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons showcased a Spring Summer 2027 collection centered around skirts, emphasizing a fresh perspective on femininity. The models featured full, pleated skirts, which were styled with a rosette at the waist, reflecting both beauty and a subversive edge.

The focus on the lower half of the body references a two-decade-old Prada exhibition that explored the skirt's significance in modern wardrobes. Prada, who incorporated a pink silk skirt into her own outfit for a backstage preview, noted the practicality of skirts, stating, "If you want to have a normal life, go wherever you want. It’s easy to camouflage even a beautiful skirt."
The absence of trousers and dresses in this collection stemmed from a past interview in which Prada compared the skirt to a men's T-shirt, a garment that serves as a vessel for her ideas, according to Simons. The collection's foundation was inspired by the simple rectangular piece of fabric historically used as a skirt, which Prada described as a starting point for creativity.
The runway featured black tops of various styles that served as a canvas for the skirts, including designs with adjustable slits secured by industrial velcro, feminine pleats, and sheer overlays on crumpled silk skirts. Bralettes, bandeaus, and bustiers provided additional avenues for expression, with styles including scoop-neck bralettes and bustiers worn over knitwear.
Footwear included silken slingbacks and industrial-style leather pumps. Rather than presenting complete outfits, the collection served as building blocks for individual expression. Prada remarked, "Everything is so complex, how can you be just one thing? When you express yourself, it is not that you are feminine, sexy, masculine; you are so many things together."
