Kardashian had previously hinted at the beauty line on social media in June 2026 and elaborated on her plans during an appearance on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast in late 2025, referring to the launch as something that would be "so major". The brand has also brought on Ami Colé founder Diarrha N'Diaye-Mbaye as Executive Vice President of Beauty to help expand its offerings.

In November 2025, Skims was valued at $5 billion following a new round of investment. This marks Kardashian's third attempt in the beauty space, following the closure of her previous brand SKKN in 2022, which included skincare and makeup products.

Hints about Skims Beauty's direction have been teased through recent clothing collaborations, including limited edition prints from artist Aurel Schmidt featuring beauty motifs. These prints resemble elements from Kardashian's earlier KKW Beauty line, which was dissolved in 2021.

Kardashian's journey in cosmetics began with KKW Beauty in 2017. The brand attracted significant investment, with Coty acquiring a 20% stake in 2021 for $200 million before relaunching as SKKN by Kim. However, that line was also phased out, paving the way for a rebranding under Skims.

Recently, Skims has ventured into beauty products, albeit with mixed reactions. The launch of products like the Seamless Sculpt Face Wrap faced criticism over its design. Additionally, Skims collaborated with Tangle Teezer to create hairbrushes in their signature colors.
