Cost-consciousness remains a significant factor in consumer behavior this year. According to a study on holiday meals, 31% of Britons plan to budget between £100 and £199, with many choosing lower-cost alternatives and simplified celebrations. Concerns about shrinkflation are prevalent, with 80% of consumers expressing worry; however, only 36% have changed brands or ceased purchasing certain products as a result.
The use of Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) services is also common, with about one-third of British adults having utilized this option. It is particularly popular among younger women, who account for 68% of frequent users, and 51% of these users are Millennials.
In contrast, luxury spending reveals a more complex narrative. While some consumers indulge in splurges, many are making deliberate choices. Gadgets (45%) and footwear (46%) rank high among luxury purchases, while food and groceries (31%) and personal care products (26%) are lower on the list.
