Carte Blanche, a new beauty brand, is making its debut today exclusively with Violet Grey, introducing itself through a singular product instead of a full lineup. Founded by Sarah Tallman, a seasoned formula developer, and Geri Hirsch, former Creative Director of Saie, Carte Blanche intends to blur the lines between skincare and makeup, catering to modern beauty consumers who seek immediate results alongside long-term benefits.

Tallman explained that for much of her career, skincare and makeup were viewed as separate entities, with skincare focusing on efficacy and makeup providing immediate visual enhancement. "What became really clear to me was that women don’t actually experience beauty that way anymore," she said. The brand’s philosophy stems from the understanding that consumers want beauty products that not only deliver instant results but also contribute positively to their skin over time.
Using a "narrow-and-deep" strategy, Carte Blanche launches with the Multi-Hyphenate Brightening Skin Tint Mineral SPF 35, priced at $68. This initial offering combines sheer coverage with broad-spectrum mineral SPF protection, while clinically addressing issues such as hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. The formula, available in nine shades, features non-nano zinc oxide, plant exosomes, stabilized vitamin C, and tomato extract.
The decision to focus on one key product is intentional. Tallman emphasized the goal of solving genuine problems and making products that feel distinct and valuable in one’s skincare routine. "If we can make something you finish, repurchase, and miss when it’s gone, then we’ve done our job," she said.
Hirsch noted that consumer readiness for such products has been evident, stemming from increasingly busy lifestyles and a desire for multitasking beauty items. "We want the products we already use to do more for us," she stated, reflecting on the evolution within the beauty industry.
Violet Grey was chosen as the exclusive launch partner for its alignment with Carte Blanche’s values of discernment and quality. Hirsch commented that Violet Grey’s customers are selective, seeking exceptional products rather than an overwhelming array of choices. The partnership also enables consumers to physically experience the product in-store, aiding in their decision-making process.
Looking ahead, Hirsch expressed plans for Carte Blanche to expand beyond this exclusive launch, aiming to grow the brand thoughtfully and cultivate a community that truly appreciates their products.
