Rejane Monetti, inspired by her upbringing in Brazil, celebrated the grand opening of Monetti Apparel on Siesta Key in June. Having spent much of her childhood in swimwear in the Brazilian cities of Mossoró and Natal, Monetti emphasized that swimwear can indeed be considered clothing when designed effectively.

Monetti's approach to fashion began early, surrounded by boys and wanting to connect with her mother, Lourdes, who had a talent for transforming clothing. They repurposed various fabrics, including tablecloths, into custom designs with the help of a local seamstress.
After moving to the U.S. in 2000 as a student, Monetti graduated with two degrees and, despite plans to return to Brazil, stayed in Sarasota after meeting her future husband, John. She previously opened Lourdes Boutique on Anna Maria Island and now offers her latest collection that aims to merge swimwear and casual fashion.
Her collection features swimmable wear that includes reversible bathing suits, high-waisted designs with tummy control, and shorts with pockets, making them suitable for various occasions beyond the beach. The materials, sourced from Brazil, provide UPF 50+ sun protection.
A paddleboarder and kayaker, Monetti emphasizes that her clothing is practical for women who want to transition seamlessly from water to land. Styles range from dresses and skorts to rompers and sports bras, and she also designs uniforms for tennis players.
Monetti's favorite designs include the Bella, which utilizes patchwork from leftover fabrics, and the Alison, a one-piece with a pleated skort. She strives for inclusivity, claiming her garments are flattering on different body types due to the stretchy, fade-resistant fabrics she employs.
One of her greatest satisfactions is witnessing the joy of women who find confidence in her clothing. “It is very, very, very joyful to me to bring confidence to other people through my clothing line,” she remarked.
Looking ahead, Monetti plans to debut new prints and styles for the fall season and will travel to Brazil in September to prepare her upcoming collection.
