Users can now find inspirational images for hair, makeup, and nails accompanied by a ‘Get the Guide’ option that provides how-to information for achieving the depicted looks. This includes suggestions for salon requests, additional styling ideas, shoppable products, and step-by-step instructions.
The new feature utilizes Pinterest’s advanced artificial intelligence capabilities, drawing on over 80 billion monthly searches and trend insights. This aims to resolve the common issue many users face in translating visual inspirations into reality.
Matt Madrigal, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Pinterest, stated that beauty guides employ the company's visual understanding technology and AI to bridge the gap between seeing a desirable look and knowing how to replicate it.
The beauty guides will be available to iOS users in the U.S. starting October 8, with plans for regional expansions.
In conjunction with this launch, Pinterest has also released its first standalone Beauty Trend Report in collaboration with beauty retailer Sephora. The report indicates that over 85% of Pinterest users discover new beauty trends on the platform ahead of other sources.
Current trending looks include maximalist makeup, pink hair, and frosted finishes. Additionally, styles such as bob haircuts, latte-inspired nails, and the ‘farm-to-face’ beauty concept are gaining traction among Pinterest users.
The report notes a significant increase in searches for different makeup styles, with ‘full beat make-up look’ searches climbing by 460% and ‘2000s club make-up’ seeing a rise of 184%. Interest in dramatic lashes is notably high, with searches for cluster lash ideas up 646%.
The Arctic Frost trend highlights a surge in frosted makeup (+286%), bleached brows (+53%), and metallic lips (+52%).
For nail trends, Pinterest has observed a growing popularity of caramel nude nails (+943%), raspberry jelly nails (+828%), and latte brown nails (+293%).
The farm-to-face trend emphasizes beauty stemming from a holistic approach, where skincare routines impact lifestyle choices, including diet and home products. Searches relating to skin foods have increased by 35%, with specific terms like ‘bone broth benefits for women’ rising by 782%.
