The studies showcased how specific ingredients such as niacinamide, trehalose, colloidal oat, and 5% minoxidil can effectively tackle common skin and hair issues including acne, hyperpigmentation, eczema, and androgenetic alopecia. The findings suggest that these formulations can enhance skin barrier function, improve visible skin concerns, and promote hair regrowth.
Kate Stockman, Vice President and Head of EMEA Research & Development at Kenvue, emphasized that consumers value the impact of healthy skin and hair on their confidence. She noted that the presented research advances the understanding of how these ingredients can support skin health and improve hair regrowth.
One of the studies focused on Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Invisible Fluid Sunscreen Oil Control 50+, which includes 2% trehalose and 2% niacinamide, addressing oily and acne-prone skin. In this study conducted on multi-ethnic Brazilian populations, participants experienced a
56% reduction in visible redness, a 46% decrease in acne-related hyperpigmentation, and a significant improvement in skin hydration and overall satisfaction.
Another Neutrogena study evaluated the Ultra Sheer Invisible Fluid Sunscreen Hydration Fluid 50, which contains 2% niacinamide, and found after regular use a 22% increase in skin hydration and improvements in skin tone.
Research from Aveeno revealed that colloidal oat can enhance skin barrier health. Studies showed an increase in key barrier proteins and improved skin recovery after UV exposure. An international survey of dermatologists indicated that 92.7% observed benefits from using colloidal oat emollients alongside topical corticosteroids in managing eczema.
Regaine's research highlighted the effectiveness of 5% minoxidil for male androgenetic alopecia. A post-hoc analysis revealed that younger men and those in earlier stages of hair loss showed significant improvements in hair regrowth compared to older men and those with more advanced hair loss.
The EADV Congress will also feature additional research from Neutrogena, with a sponsored session focused on hydration in compromised skin. This ongoing research aims to develop innovative solutions for skin and hair health.
