Organizers highlight a theme of “local is international” for this iteration, focusing on the integration of Chinese creative talent with global fashion entities. This shift is particularly evident in the increased presence of Chinese designers within major domestic companies. On October 11, sportswear giant Anta will unveil the next phase of its collaboration with designer Chen Peng, showcasing their partnership at SHFW. This trend points to a growing emphasis on sustained creative partnerships rather than just seasonal collaborations.

Adidas is also expanding its involvement this season, planning a four-day program from October 15 to 18 that will include both industry events and consumer-facing presentations. The program will feature China-designed products, the Classic line, and Y-3, along with exhibitions and interactive experiences.

Noteworthy returns include the Shanghai-founded label Pronounce, which has established a presence in Milan. On October 11, it will present its first-ever womenswear line in celebration of its 10th anniversary.

International participation will be selective, with Italian brands Transit and Stivanano, French brand Maison Wester, Danish label Only, Vietnamese label Liniss, and LA occasionwear brand Nana Jacqueline showcasing their designs. The French Federation of Men’s Fashion will also present five French labels—Egonlab, Coltesse, Baziszt, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, and MII Collection—from October 10 to 12 for presentations and industry exchanges.

Global brands are using SHFW to test locally relevant ideas; for instance, H&M will introduce its Elie Saab collaboration in China on October 16. Additionally, In Flux Shanghai × New York will feature emerging New York designers and lifestyle brands.

The trade aspect of SHFW is crucial, with Mode Shanghai running from October 8 to 12, featuring a mix of Chinese and international brands, where international exhibitors will make up over half of the participants. Chinese label EP Yaying will utilize this platform to foster relationships with international buyers and explore overseas opportunities.

Though international editor and buyer attendance is expected to remain steady, the scheduling overlap with Paris poses challenges. However, the true measure of Shanghai Fashion Week's international aspirations may not be the number of foreign attendees, but rather the meaningful connections and collaborations that emerge after the shows conclude.
