A recent study from CeraVe reveals a significant awareness gap regarding skin protection among adults in Europe. Conducted with 6,000 participants from the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, the research finds that while 81% of respondents acknowledge the importance of protecting their skin beyond UV exposure, only 22% actually use products designed to support the skin barrier.

The study indicates that nearly half (47%) of those surveyed feel their skin has become more sensitive over the past five years, and 50% associate dryness with environmental changes. Despite this awareness, just 10% take extra skincare measures during high pollution levels, and 55% express a preference for simple skincare routines.

These findings were shared at the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Congress in Vienna, where CeraVe hosted a discussion with dermatology experts. Dr. Andrew Park, a board-certified dermatologist, highlighted the importance of understanding the link between skin symptoms like dryness and the health of the skin barrier, advocating for CeraVe's dermatologist-developed products that contain three skin-identical ceramides. He emphasized that safety and efficacy are paramount in product development.

Gene Colon, Global Senior Vice President of Medical Relations and Communications at CeraVe, added that while more people are paying attention to their skin health, this increasing awareness necessitates clear and trustworthy guidance. CeraVe aims to simplify skincare discussions by providing credible science and effective products, ultimately helping consumers make informed choices.
